Fatal Accident at Geary and Arguello Boulevard
San Francisco police are currently investigating a fatal accident at Geary and Arguello Boulevard, according to today’s San Francisco Examiner.
The story reveals a 31-year-old man was killed after an “intoxicated driver…plowed into his car” last Thursday on Geary Boulevard, police say. In addition, the driver was reportedly speeding and running multiple red lights prior to the accident.
Although the identity of the victim remains unreleased, a police spokeswoman, Lt. Lyn Tomioka, was quoted via the Examiner saying the victim was “killed upon impact around 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Arguello Boulevard.”
Apparently, there was more than one witness to the accident itself (including a Muni bus driver) who, “rushed to the victim’s assistance but found no pulse,” according to the report and Lt. Tomioka.
Furthermore and prior to the collision, witnesses saw the driver (whose name was also being withheld) “speeding eastbound on Geary Boulevard in an Audi.” The story of at least one witness also indicated the following; “the driver ran multiple red lights, including one at the intersection of Arguello Boulevard.”
The report says, the victim was driving a Mazda that was “t-boned on the driver’s side as it crossed Arguello,” Tomioka said. Also, while the arrest record and extent of the driver’s injuries are unknown at this point, the investigation is ongoing.
For example, police are still trying to determine whether the suspect driver had been drinking before the incident occurred and or whether the driver might have been under the influence of any drugs at the time of the accident, according to the Examiner.
We do know however, the suspect is in the hospital and that “He will likely face criminal charges upon his release from the hospital,” Tomioka explained via the report. There are also no new updates that have been released on his condition.
Finally, investigators did remain at the crash scene “for about five hours…as eastbound lanes on Geary Boulevard (a central traffic artery with one of The City’s busiest bus lines) were closed” during the initial investigation. Lanes were reopened around 7:15 a.m.
