San Francisco 3 Car Crash: Drunken Driver Suspected Culprit
The Bay City News reported on April 15, 2011 that a dangerous three-vehicle collision occurred on Thursday of this week in South San Francisco. The culprit? The story indicated that “a 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving without insurance after allegedly causing the wreck in San Francisco’s Crocker Amazon neighborhood,” a police spokesman explained to reporters.
Additionally, a car, truck and small SUV were all involved in the crash near the intersection of Geneva Avenue and Prague Street at about 1:10 p.m. on April 14, 2011, police Officer Albie Esparza said via the report. When officers arrived, the SUV was on the sidewalk and one of the vehicles overturned, according to the story.
As a result of the incident, four people were transported to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for injuries that were not believed to be life threatening at the time the accident occurred.
However one of the divers was taken into custody. Bay City also claims, Bruno Leo Landi (the South San Francisco resident believed to be responsible for the crash) was arrested by officers on suspicion of DUI and driving without car insurance, according to Esparza.
Initially, Landi was taken to the hospital to be treated for a complaint of pain but he was later booked into county jail. Unfortunately, this same situation happens rather frequently in California. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “A motor vehicle crash is considered to be alcohol-related if at least one driver or non-occupant (such as a pedestrian or pedalcyclist) involved in the crash is determined to have had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .01 gram per deciliter (g/dL) or higher.
Thus, any fatality that occurs in an alcohol-related crash is considered an alcohol-related fatality. The term ‘alcohol-related’ does not indicate that a crash or fatality was caused by the presence of alcohol.” It is important note that just because one is a careful driver, does not mean that others on the road will treat you with the same respect. In short, if you or a loved one experiences this type of irresponsibility by a drunken driver, it is critical to know your rights and contact a trusted attorney in order to help protect your family and others from offenders.
