New App Protects against Driver Distraction and Promotes Pedestrian Safety

Some of you may have already heard about iZUP, a new technology for cellular phones that was designed specifically to help to prevent distracted driving.  The iZUP “eyes up” mobile app, developed by Illume Software, is claimed to “help a driver avoid distractions caused by their cell phone,” according to the company website.

In short, the iZUP solution works by holding text messages, e-mails and calls while you’re driving, without restricting access to emergency calls to 911 and or a list of authorized phone numbers.   Makers of the product also indicate that the new app may especially help those who already have a habit of texting while driving.

In California, drivers are also required to follow a state cell phone ban.  As a result, the iZup “eyes up” is currently being marketed to drivers living in states with similar bans.  For a closer look, you can visit the company’s website or check out the app stores which are gaining momentum with the college crowd for the product that costs $2.95 per month or less than $20 a year.

The following information can also be found online and is the crux of the argument to support distraction free, safe driving.  I am curious to know if use of this app has made a difference for readers?
